Purpose

Accounting Club

Accounting Club is a registered student organization at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The goal is to redesign the old website to have a cleaner interface. In addition to this, I wanted to place it on a platform where it is easier to navigate and for future Webmaster (an executive position under Public Relations Chair) to use.

Planning

Because we are reformating an old website, I wanted to maintain some old foundational characteristics of the website and revise them to be more modern.

I started this process with an idea page because I knew that there will be a lot of material to cover. This helped with the general theme of the website as well as double-checking that all the content is there. I knew that I wanted to keep the old logo of the accounting club as well as make sure that the main tabs are there: Home, About, Sponsors, Members, and How to Join. In addition to this, I wanted to add a membership portal that will be more interactive for the members. This would include different functions like external opportunities as well as an updatable calendar.

Next, I broke down each page, its content and, the general website layout of each page. This is important to note because it allows me to visualize and move around things on each page before I actually build the site. I also wanted to make sure that the colors fit well and used it as a guide throughout the website. The theme I used as my focus through the website was professional and clean. Furthermore, this allowed me to view the pages holistically and compare them with other pages to make sure the layouts are complementary.

Building/Testing

Building out the website, I went page by page and followed my planning stage. I kept into consideration the theme of professionalism as well as the color scheme. To test, I asked the executive board to navigate throughout the pages as well as individually went through the website to make sure everything was seamless. I like to observe and take notes after each person goes through the page to see if the website is intuitive. If there is ever a place where people are confused, I would make sure to make an icon or indicator to make the website more user-friendly.

Each position is stated under the picture and the picture is attached to an anchor point further on the page so the user would be able to learn more about each executive member.

Every picture is linked directly to the LinkedIn page which allows each active member to connect directly to each executive member. This creates a larger network and is a more collaborative design function.

The changing font from light to dark allows for contrast and indicates the importance of each respective the text.
